Why should you support the work of Greater Washington Interfaith Power and Light?
Pollution from energy use is hurting God’s creation and God’s children now – and it will only get worse if we continue to ignore it.
- Global warming is a significant, looming threat that has begun to take its toll on our planet.
- The faith community can play a key role in the movement to address global warming, as it has in movements from the end of slavery to modern civil rights.
- The faith community leads significantly by witnessing through its own behavior.
- To address a truly global problem, there is a critical need for broad-based, religious involvement. We need not the actions of just a few but of the many; so every congregation counts – as does every dollar that helps us reach more congregations.
- In a time of conflict and division, Interfaith Power and Light is a way for people of diverse faiths to come together, providing a fruitful arena for interfaith cooperation.
- GWIPL is strategically placed to provide leadership and support congregations in taking concrete steps to protect creation.
Together, we can help diverse faith communities in the Greater Washington Area address the moral, ethical, and religious dimensions of our energy use, including the world-wide problems that global warming could cause, by learning more about faith and energy use, using less energy, buying clean energy, and introducing these concerns into their worship services. We believe that congregations and institutions of faith in the Greater Washington area can – and should – take a leading role in addressing these concerns. Our congregations are not only users of energy, who can become living examples of a more sustainable, just future, but do reach a large number of people in our community. In the greater Washington area, we have another an especially unique opportunity since many of our nation’s leading policy-makers attend services in this area.
We invite you to work with us and to prayerfully consider making a generous contribution to support GWIPL’s work.
