There is still time to submit your sermon to GWIPL’s Earth Day Sermon Contest. Please email the text to Allison by Thursday, May 8. Three winners will receive energy saving light bulbs for your favorite food pantry or similar low-income community project.
Over 50 congregations marked Earth Day by sermons, creation worship services, zero-trash events, local food, tree plantings, advocacy, and much more. See photos and read more about what some of these great communities did and get inspired for your own community’s efforts.

Highlights of Last Month
In April, congregations in Northern Virginia came together to learn about where our energy comes from and consequences for our future. Immanuel on the Hill’s program featured a moving prayer for the mountains by Rev. Dr. Margaret Ann Faeth and stories from mountain communities in West Virginia from Amy Jones. Also, Temple Rodelf Shalom and Falls Church Presbyterian Church hosted a discussion moderated by Steven Mufson, Washington Post Energy Correspondent, with Joe Lucas, American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) and Mike McCoy, Appalachian Voices. Participants left both events educated and energized to work for a clean energy future. To join their efforts, sign on to the Mile Long Petition by May 6.
