1/11 - Green Building Tour and a Night at the Movies
Join the Green Building Institute for a tour of the Enviro-Center and at 7pm, a FREE showing of “An Inconvenient Truth,” Al Gore's acclaimed documentary that explains why global warming is dangerously real and urges viewers to action.

1/18 - Why do People of Faith Care about the Environment: A community discussion led by a panel of experts from Christian and Jewish communities
Panelists include: Ned Stowe, Friends Committee on National Legislation, Beth Norcross, Wesley Seminary, De Herman, Green Shalom Committee, Temple Emanuel, and Dr. J. Matthew Sleeth author of “Serve God, Save the Planet.” This is the first of a monthly creation care series, which will continue throughout 2007.
When: Thursday, Jan. 18 from 7-9pm

1/27 - Regional Gathering and Workshops from the Unitarian Universalist Green Sanctuary Program. Congregations of all faiths are invited to join with UU’s to learn about green building design, watershed management, and public policy issues. It will include individual planning for your congregation.

2/4 - SAVE THE DATE: Green Menorah Tikkun
Join the Washington Jewish community, as it continues its environmental efforts. Hear testimonials from Jewish leaders and environmentalists who are paving the way in energy efficiency and green power, green transportation, green product-sourcing, and environmental legislation and advocacy. Learn how to apply their successes in your congregation, chavura, or organization and brainstorm with like-minded colleagues about ideas for the future. We will close with song, testimonies on next steps, and the signing of the Green Menorah Covenant- a communal brit to take action to conserve Creation.
When: Sunday, Feb. 4, from 2:00 - 4:30pm

NEWS AND PROGRAMS

1. Join the GWIPL Interfaith Light Bulb Challenge: How many people of faith does it take to change a light bulb? Let us know. We know that many of you have been working hard to change the lights in your congregation and in members’ homes. Help us celebrate and see the impact of our success by submitting a photo. Please submit a photo, with your name of congregation and number of people participating to Allison@gwipl.org.

2. Clean Energy Buying Collective: Is your congregation interested in saving money on their energy bills and investing in clean energy? Then join our clean energy-buying collective, where your congregation can save between 2-10% on their total energy costs and use their savings to buy clean energy. 3. Did you miss Finding Common Ground for the Future of the Earth: Protection of the Environment from an Interfaith Perspective? Now you can listen to a pod cast of this extraordinary event that was held on December 4, 2006 and send it to friends. Visit our website for more information.

4. DC: Free Home Energy Audits
The District Department of the Environment is pleased to offer free home energy audits to DC single family homeowner’s interested in saving energy, money, and the planet. A Honeywell certified energy auditor will identify ways that a household can save money and save energy. You are encouraged to call the Energy Hotline at (202) 673-6750 to schedule a FREE audit.

5. Montgomery County Announces Clean Energy Rewards: a program designed to help take the guesswork out of purchasing clean energy. Purchasing clean energy is one way we can protect our assets and continue to flourish as a community. To sign up for more information please visit the Montgomery County website.
