Religious Leaders Sign-On Letter
Join religious leaders from throughout Virginia and sign on to a letter asking Governor Kaine to be the leader of Virginia’s clean energy future and oppose the building of Dominion Power’s proposed Wise County coal plant. If built, this plant would devastate Virginia’s air, water, land, and people. We have hope that together we can keep Virginia healthy for future generations. To sign on, email Allison@gwipl.org by Feb. 28. To read the letter go to http://www.gwipl.org/Virginia.asp. To read more about the proposed plant, visit http://www.cleanenergyva.org/

Carbon Lenten Fast
Join GWIPL and others in our region in committing to the Lenten Carbon Fast. In light of the climate crisis, this Lent let us reflect upon our actions and take steps to improve ourselves and our communities. To find out how to participate and involve your community click here.

Congregation in the Spotlight

Mt. Vernon UU Church
On Sunday, Jan. 27, congregants of all ages gathered for a yummy pot luck dinner to celebrate their green initiatives and discuss and energize their programs for the future. Even the youngest members of the community participated during the evening by leading the congregation in song. Mt. Vernon UU has a long standing green sanctuary committee that among its accomplishments received $60,000 from Fairfax County to create rain gardens on their property. The organizers used the evening to present the results of their energy audit from GWIPL and recruited attendees to help them implement suggested changes, so they can continue to be good stewards of the earth. For more information on their programs visit: http://www.mvuc.org/OLW/green.html
