New Education Program and Trainings
GWIPL would love to be a part of your adult and youth educational offerings for the Fall. Our interactive programs cover both the theological and practical ways your community can engage in care of the planet. Look through our full list of programs and consider inviting us to come and teach in your community. We can do as few as one class or as many as you like! Additionally we have trainings for your committee, with topics including how to get started, communications, and advocacy; so you can be effective in caring for creation in your community.
If you are interested, just contact us and we will put you on the calendar!
Highlights of Last Month
Renewal: An Interfaith Call to Action
Thank you to all of the sixty-five people who attended the GWIPL co-sponsored screening of scenes from Renewal, the first feature-length documentary to capture the vitality and diversity of America's religious-environmental movement. It was the first DC event that brought together grassroots environmental groups from the Muslim, Jewish, and Christian faiths. Lindsey Paige Savoie, director of Shomrei Adamah of Greater Washington, said: "It was amazing to see our similarities and strengths as we shared our histories, our passions, our hopes and the realities. There is a lot more work to be done. It is encouraging to know that we are not doing this alone."
If you would like to show the film in your faith community, please visit our films page for more information on borrowing or purchasing it.
A special thanks to Jakir, Nadia, Sanjana, Brian, Lindsey, Mohamad, Laura, Tiffany, and Foundry United Methodist Church for all of your help in making this event a success.

From the Hlll
Faith leaders from Maryland’s 8th congressional district met with Representative Chris Van Hollen to discuss global warming solutions to care for our planet for future generations. The leaders thank Rep. Van Hollen for his long record of being a friend of creation and urged him to endorse the 1 Sky platform, which emphasizes scientific based reduction goals of green house gases by at least 25% below 1990 levels by 2020, investment in green color jobs, and an end to development of new coal plants that emit global warming pollution.
With the August congressional recess, it is a great time to schedule meetings with your federal Senators, Representative, or Delegate - yes, I’m sure Del. Holmes Norton would like to know what is important to you. For assistance, please contact Allison. And remember, we love hearing about your success stories!

Green Transportation
New York Avenue Presbyterian Church is located at an ideal location for all types of low-carbon transportation, including walking, METROing, busing, and biking. To celebrate and highlight all of these options, the church held a "bike to church" Sunday. Members met at designed points throughout the area and experienced riders helped novices make it safely to church. New York Avenue Presbyterian is now looking into putting in a bike rack. With this nice weather consider holding your own "bike to house of worship" day. For more information on biking in our area check out the website of the Washington Area Bicycle Association.
