How to Find a Home Energy Auditor
GENERAL
The Residential Energy Services Network is a network of approved energy audit organizations that rate existing and proposed buildings’ “energy index” and find cost-effective efficiency solutions to reduce energy consumption in homes and other buildings. Through their directory, you can find certified energy raters in the greater DC area.
DC
Washington, DC’s Free Program
The DC Department of the Environment’s (DDOE) Home Energy Rating System (HERS) program identifies a home’s energy deficiencies and provides homeowners with cost-effective, energy improvement recommendations. District residency and homeownership are the only program eligibility requirements. MARYLAND
The Energy Star Maryland Home Performance Program helps homeowners improve their energy efficiency, focusing on improving home heating and cooling systems, insulation, as well as Energy Star appliances. It is part of Governor O’Malley’s EmPOWER Maryland initiative to reduce energy consumption in Maryland.
