Energy Assessments

1. Building/s Walkthrough: GWIPL will conduct a site visit to evaluate your facility and identify cost effective opportunities to save energy. The site visit will examine climate control, lighting, and appliances. The following people should be present during the site visit: a representative from you environmental committee and a representative from the property/ buildings and ground committee. Additionally, it would be good to have representatives from the finance and social justices committees and the office administrator/ property manger/ executive director. Lighting Fixture

2. Written report from GWIPL: Within two weeks after the site visit, you will receive a written report that will include strategies for changing behavior, opportunities for changes, and payback information where applicable.

Changing exit sign bulbs
Changing to LEDs reduced the exit signs energy use by 93% at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

3. Strategy session on conservation practices: One month or so after you receive your written report; GWIPL will facilitate a meeting with your congregation's leadership on changing behavior. This session will talk about your congregation's mission, a vision for the future and how you take care of your building reflects these goals.

4. Review of Implementation: Three months after your receive the report, we will have a conversation to see where in the process you are with implementing the action steps. We will talk about successes but also further strategize for the future. Please keep track of your how much you spend to implement the changes.

5. Ongoing Evaluation: Through portfolio manager, a free online tool made available by the EPA, you will be able to track your monthly energy bills. This will allow you to track the results of any behavioral or structural (such as change of bulbs) changes. Trainings for the portfolio manager software will be available regularly. We expect you to set a baseline, continue to track your bills, and share your report with us.
