Success Stories
Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church, Washington, DC
The Earth Stewards Task Force, in an effort to educate and engage the congregation, organized a special Earth Day Service on global warming. Two of the task force’s most persuasive members approached their senior pastor, resulting in agreement to have the service and for the associate minister to preach. They gave the associate minister a variety of resources to help him formulate a compelling sermon. The pastor also consulted with the music director for relevant music to accompany the service.
The task force planned the service and related activities; this included hearing stories from two parishioners on how they have cooled the planet in their own lives, the youth group made posters about activities one can do at home, and educational activities on global warming were included in each church school class. For coffee hour, the task force provided fair trade coffee and cold food. It was an educational and inspiring day.
