Church of the Ascension

The Green Committee began its efforts in 2005 after having Rabbi Daniel Swartz, GWIPL’s former coordinator, present at a “Cry of Creation” forum. Other educational activities have included Saturday at the movies, featuring films like the Great Warming, the low carbon diet campaign and a sermon on global warming by their pastor.

After receiving an energy assessment from Greater Washington Interfaith Power and Light, the green, building and grounds committees were left with the question of how they could pay for the initial costs of energy efficient improvements. With permission from the Vestry, the group collected items for two months to host a garage sale. They earned $1300.00, enough to pay for insulation for the Ascension House and to install new windows in the Sunday school rooms.
